Home for the Holidays – French Macaroons
I’ve been thinking about making french macaroons for a long time, but always heard that they were very difficult to make. Turns out the rumor is true. I literally started with whole raw almonds, blanched them, ground them and sifted them into flour. Then Jeff helped me through the finicky process of of whipping up egg whites and baking them just right. It was a long process, but the end result was well worth it.

They look perfect! I hope they taste as good as they look. :-)
They look great, Allie!
My GOD those look amazing! I have little patience for baking, but it’s pictures and recipes like this that make me want to try!
Hey Allie! Macaroons are my most favorite dessert! Remember Cannes (remember Cannes? What a silly question) well there’s a store around the corner with delicious ones that spurred my love for them. Then, “Delightful Pastries” opened on Wells. I just had Mango macaroons… dee lish. If you want to go exploring with me, the French Market just opened and I read wonderful things about the macaroons there. It’s at the Ogilvie Station.
Wow, who would have though I could write so much about a dessert! Ha. Anyway, have Merry Christmas! Talk to ya in 2010!!
Cannes is where I first fell in love with french macaroons. I think I devoured about 20 of them over the course of one night. I’ve been looking for them ever since – I’m so excited to hear that we can get them in Chicago. We should definitely go exploring!
Yum! I love macarons.
Okay, see, I don’t even *like* macaroons. And I want like seven thousand of these. Right now.
these look ridiculously delicious.
Wow they’re so pretty! Almost too pretty to eat.. almost… I’m sure they tasted amazing!
Okay…I am so envious of you. This is something I’ve been wanting to attempt for oh…years. I just can’t seem to find the TIME. Yours look amazing. Good work!
Um, do you want to come over and be my own, personal, Julia Child? Because that would be amazing.
:)
One of my resolutions is to do more baking & cooking this year and now I’m even more inspired! (Also, everything is much more fun when you’re able to document it with photos, too, right? Right.) In any case, those macaroons look absolutely divine. I want some right now.
I saw that Starbucks started selling french macaroons. Not sure if it was only this one particular store, but if they are going to be getting into the macaroon business I am SO excited!
