The White Balance Project
Some of my favorite photos often end up being the ones no one ever sees—the photos we take to grab white balance when shooting in a particular area. These shots always seem to capture a more natural human moment than those that are intended to be seen—maybe because the pressure’s off. I’ve been collecting some of these shots over time (and, yes, most are of Jeff). I’ll list the links to the corresponding “real” photos from each of these shoots at the bottom.

1-3: Ryan and Emily
4: Jeff helping me with a photo class assignment
5: Setting up a self-timed shot of the two of us
6: Another shot of Jeff for my photo class assignment
7: Setting up a shot for yet another photo assignment (I haven’t put this one up)
8: Setting the white balance for a shot of Millennium Park
9: Yet another portrait of Jeff
10: And another (I had to take more than 40 that week for class)
11-12: Baby Henry vacationing in northern Michigan
13: Setting up another self-timed shot of the two of us
14: Dining in Millennium Park

I’ve experienced the same kind of ‘prized’ shots when we go to photoshoots too! They’re more fun for me in the end because they’re usually of my coworkers holding the board and acting stupid with whatever model instead of the 1 million regular shots of whatever we’re there to actually capture.
Oh I love these, too cool!
Heh, these photos make me smile. I love the behind the scenes ones!
totally balanced!
No idea what White Balance is but I love the photos!
